I responded with clarifying questions and got the same BS response. Before I read the first email, if one were to take a “scan” of my body it would show cool, calm, peaceful, empowered, ready, safe, loving, and optimistic. Just to name a few adjectives to describe my body chemistry, hormone balance, blood pressure, fight or flight mode, etc … or to put it simply my MOOD.
Reading the email took all of 20 seconds. In those 20 seconds, I starting asking inflammatory rhetorical questions like … "What? Fired? Me? How Dare You? I am the Coach! You don’t fire the coach! What did I do wrong? Did something major happen that I don’t know about? Did I offend them? Am I not as good a coach as I thought? Will others start firing me? Have I lost it? Why would they lie to me? Do they not trust me?" And perhaps 100 more questions all in the next 20 seconds.
My mood ring was glowing hot red.
I went from a peaceful warrior glowing blue/green to an on-tilt, off my rocker, hair literally on fire red in a matter of seconds. I was weak with fear, regret, resentment, anger, disappointment, and guilt … glowing RED.
Mood swings, we tend to think they just come and go. We're just victims relegated to waiting them out. But our MOOD is our motivation. We're either motivated to hide, be small, complain, blame, and give up or we're motivated to take on any challenge, comfort any friend, or move any mountain. Our MOOD is behind it all.
Think about it. Take any project in which you're engaged, have goals, and are working towards completion. Notice the power you have to engage right after a setback. Compare it to the power you feel to engage right after a success. That power to engage is your mood … a wild concoction of your body chemistry all triggered by the story in your heart and mind.
One of the “secrets” to success is the art and science of managing our moods ... ergo our motivation. And that secret is that the parts of us that launch our MOODS cannot tell the difference between a real experience and one vividly imagined.
We can actually make up a story that changes our mood changing our motivation.
Natural winners in life are just in the habit of managing their stories and moods. They always FEEL like engaging at a high courageous level. They always feel like serving. They always feel like they deserve success. That's their story … a life story.
Some of us have to learn this art. If you feel like you're a victim to your moods, if you bob and weave based on the hand you're dealt vs the hand you play, or if you spend more time in a funk that you do fearless you'll want to learn this art as well.
